Cultivate Blog

12 years ago, On-site Gifting helped launch Cultivate into the events, meetings, and incentive travel industry. Without the hard work and dedication of our On-site Staff, Cultivate might look and operate differently than it does today.

Our On-site Staff is professional, engaged, and always ready to help people find a gift that fits them. They work tirelessly to ensure all aspects of your On-site Gifting program run smoothly through adaptability, exceptional customer service, and thoughtful setup and distribution from beginning to end.

In this week’s new blog series, we’re introducing you to our On-site Staff. Get to know them, their history with Cultivate, and why they love helping our clients deliver meaningful appreciation on-site. First up: meet Rebecca Boyd.

1.) Where are you from?

Born in Houston, Texas but NYC raised me. ;-)

2.) How long have you been with Cultivate?

I joined Cultivate in the spring of 2014.

3.) What made you want to work with Cultivate?

I had gone back to school to get my master's and needed a flexible part-time job. Serendipitously, I was introduced to Tom and his team via a shared friend of ours. I was really impressed with the company’s vision to make corporate gifting so uniquely personable, aesthetic, and fun!

4.) What’s your favorite On-site Gifting destination?

Ravello, Italy. Bellisimo! But Mexico and its people have a special place in my heart.

5.) The best gift you’ve ever appreciated people with on-site?

In my experience, it’s not the gift as much as the person’s response. People who have either never been gifted before or who have had a tough personal transition and are so genuinely touched that they are being considered to this degree. It can really choke me up.

6.) What’s your favorite part about being a member of our On-site Staff?

I love being part of a team. Cultivate has an uncanny habit of hiring some of the best people I have come to know over the last 8 plus years—some feel like family. When a new event specialist comes into the fold, I really enjoy getting to know what makes them tick and witnessing their experience—it gives me fresh eyes.

7.) Any funny or memorable stories?

The funny and memorable is what makes Cultivate …CULTIVATE. For example, driving from one part of a region in Mexico to another part in an effort to acquire sunglasses where the driver’s fluency in English only rivals your *mastery* of Spanish, your WAZE app doesn’t work and Google Maps needs a geographical update but we got the glasses! Too many to detail further here, but I will add that building out these Pop-up Shops is not unlike a traveling minstrel show. Each event has its own ecosystem - the planner/client, guests, outside staff, and us. Oftentimes, what’s been ordered has shipped in shape and has arrived on time. Sometimes ..it doesn’t. And in those sometimes times, we Cultivators get creative and close the gaps. With a smile for one another. Our client. And our guests. Frankly, it’s when things go awry and we collectively manage to pull it off and have a big yuk in the wake of it that I gain my most satisfaction.

8.) Any other comments?

I would be remiss if I did not add that we in the field and on-site would be lost without Cultivate’s Event team. They remotely troubleshoot tablets, answer emails and texts at all hours, and hold hands virtually with us with skill, humor (you know who you are!), and heart. My gratitude is bottomless.
